The Hemeji castle is one of the most beautiful and finest surviving castles in Japan. The castle was constructed 400 years ago when Japan's architectural techniques was at the peak. It was  originally a forr built in 1346 by Akamatsu and reconstructed in 1560s-1600. It was a fortified castle against the Shoguns. As said earlier during its reconstruction by Nobunga Oda its when it was converted to a castle. The main reason as why its surviving to date is because it was not used in battles hence preserving its original state.

The castle is situated on a plane with its size being 140m east to west and 125m north to south.
